What To Do When Experiencing An Uninsured Motorist
7/19/2019
You are going along in your car, obeying all of the traffic laws, driving causing the wrong way cautiously when all of a sudden, a vehicle is driving directly at you, in your lane. This vehicle is driving the wrong way and is about to hit you head on. Instinctively, you swerve out of the way. Luckily, you avoid the vehicle.
What to do Next?
Unfortunately, in the process of getting out of the way of the car you struck a telephone pole. After a few moments you quickly realize that the vehicle that caused this never stopped and is long gone. To make matters worse, you suffered a broken wrist and your head is pounding. Only if you had some identifying information on the car that was responsible, you could make a claim for your injuries. As a result of your injuries you will most likely miss time from work as well as certain activities with your friends and family.
Injuries that Have a Direct Impact on Your Life
In most states, including Massachusetts and New Hampshire, you are not without hope. When you suffer injuries that have a direct impact on your life, and possibly the life of your family, through no fault of your own, you should be compensated fairly and equitably. In your personal automobile policy, as well as many commercial automobile policies, there is a section that deals with Uninsured Motorist Coverage.
Uninsured Motorist
This coverage may be titled something different, but the term “Uninsured” is usually in the title of the coverage. In Massachusetts it is a mandatory coverage. This coverage provides the means for a person to make a claim for injuries suffered in a number of situations, including the unfortunate scenario described in the beginning of this article.
There are several other situations for which Uninsured Motorist Coverage would provide a means to be compensated. Examples are:
- Being struck by a vehicle that has no insurance or appropriate bond even though you know who hit your vehicle.
- Being struck by an unknown and/or uninsured vehicle while a pedestrian.
If you find yourself injured in a motor vehicle accident, or an accident of any kind, please call me to discuss your case. There may be an avenue to make sure you are properly compensated for the injuries and damages you have suffered through no fault of your own.
