Accidents involving multiple vehicles may be more complex and can take a long time to investigate. In this case some of the people involved were injured, which could impact the length of the investigation as well.
Pile-ups can occur when drivers follow other vehicles too closely. Vehicles travel at high speeds on highways, so if one car stops suddenly, others behind may collide with it if they are not able to stop in time. This situation can create a chain reaction that makes it difficult to establish the cause of these accidents. In addition, multiple-vehicle accidents can create a mass of destroyed vehicles which makes it difficult for any victims to get out of their vehicles or to get rescued by emergency personnel.
In some accidents of this nature, poor visibility can also be a cause. Investigators must evaluate all circumstances based on the time of day, witness testimonies, highway conditions, damage to the vehicles and other available information to come up with conclusions.
Victims of accidents may be entitled to compensation for any property damages, medical expenses, pain and suffering and loss of wages.
