The man stands accused of operating under the influence and of leaving the scene of an accident and was held on a $50,000 bail. According to police, when he ran away from the scene, he left behind the woman’s body in the passenger seat of a 2005 Toyota Tundra that was owned by her father. Authorities were able to catch up with the man by tracking him down through the dead woman’s cell phone, according to a report.
When state troopers came for the man at his mother’s home, his head was reportedly bleeding and he was said to have dried blood on his clothes. He also smelled of alcohol, according to the report. The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles showed that the 22-year-old’s license had been suspended twice in the four years before the accident for defaulting on payments, as well as for other incidents. In September 2013, his license was once again suspended for refusing to take a blood test, the RMV revealed.
A drunk driving accident resulting in serious injury or death is always devastating to family and friends. Individuals who have suffered a car accident injury or lost a loved one to a drunk driver may have the right to pursue compensation for damages in a court of law.
