Honda retira del mercado los monovolúmenes Odyssey por un problema en los frenos

11/13/2013

Massachusetts residents may have reason to be concerned if they own a 2007 or 2008 Honda Odyssey. The automotive manufacturer is recalling over 340,000 minivans due to a brake issue that could lead to a accidente de tráfico. According to Honda, the issue lies with a software problem that may cause the vehicle to brake without warning or the vehicle’s brake lights to come on.

If an Odyssey is driven in a particular manner, the Vehicle Stability Assist system will not recalibrate the yaw rate sensor in the minivan after an engine restart. When calibration does not occur, it leads to a buildup of hydraulic pressure in the brake system. If this pressure is released in the brake circuit, the vehicle will brake without the driver applying the brake pedal. Fortunately, no crashes or injuries have been reported as a result of these issues.

While Honda has stated that the resolution to the problem is to install new yaw rate sensors in recalled vehicles, the new equipment will not be available until spring of 2014. In the meantime, Honda is contacting Odyssey owners and letting them know how to ensure that their vehicle recalibrates. A second notification will be sent to owners once the replacement parts are available, and local dealerships will install the new yaw rate sensor at no cost.

If an Odyssey owner ends up in a collision due to a problem with their brakes, they are likely to end up dealing with vehicle repair costs and medical bills. An attorney may be able to help the injured party receive compensation from the car manufacturer responsible.
