2/28/2014

Getting behind the wheel of a vehicle is a serious responsibility that some teenagers might not always treat as such. When any driver fails to obey traffic signals and other posted traffic guidelines, accidents can occur. For one Sandwich, Massachusetts, teen, failing to stop at a red traffic signal resulted in the death of one person and serious consequences for him.

En accidente de tráfico occurred on Nov. 30, 2012, when the teen drove through a red light and hit a woman’s car. She was turning left off of Route 132 onto the eastbound Route 6 ramp. He was traveling north on Route 132. The female driver had a passenger in her vehicle who was trapped in the car. He was pronounced dead at Cape Cod Hospital. The female driver received treatment at the hospital prior to being released.

In his criminal trial, a jury found the boy guilty of motor vehicle homicide. He was sentenced to four years of probation and 500 hours of community service. He was also sentenced to one year in Barnstable County Correctional Facility, but the judge suspended that as part of his probation. He also lost his driving privileges for 15 years.

This tragic accident shows how the actions of one person can affect the lives of those around him. The family of the man who lost his life and the woman who suffered injuries in the accident might have the right to seek compensation for damages caused by the accident. If they decide to pursue that right, they should make sure they fully understand how to proceed to ensure they follow the proper procedure for filing claims for compensation.
